News U Can Use Media Guilty in Libby Trial Having attended several sessions of the Scooter Libby trial, I was not surprised to hear that Libby and Vice President Cheney would not be testifying. The case against Libby is surprisingly thin, and from the point of view of the defense, the goal is to get Libby off, not put on a show for Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews, and the left-wing blogs. The defense has apparently concluded that the government has not made a compelling enough case to convict Libby. When... "What I Meant to Say…"Once again a prominent U.S. Senator and candidate for the Presidency of the United States has expressed in open forum his disdain for the daily sacrifice of young Americans in uniform. Last week, Senator Barak Obama told a crowd of college students at Iowa State University that those soldiers who have died in Iraq "wasted" their lives. Now he is everywhere, apologizing and trying to "clarify" his remarks. Just as I didn't believe for one minute John... The Speaker of the House -- Her 747 Request and Competing PublicityI'm not sure which woman was the more relieved by Anna Nicole Smith's untimely death. Is it the star of "Lust in Space," home in Houston, or is it the Speaker of the House? Last week both women had front page coverage but less than that of the late Ms. Smith. Inasmuch as I have no idea what would cause a successful woman to do what this astronaut charged with attempted murder did, I have no comment on that story. But the Speaker of the House? That is something about which... Time Is Running OutEach day that goes by, without any concrete action to stop the Iranian nuclear program, brings the Islamist state many steps closer to its goal of "wiping the Jewish state off the map" and at least trying to destroy the "Great Satan" by becoming a nuclear weapon state. Observers have no doubt that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's apocalyptic utterances are not mere rhetoric. His attempts to deny the Holocaust and his support for the terrorist organizations like Hamas... McConnell Senate Leadership: Likely Significant ChangeOne of life's little ironies played itself out in the United States Senate these past few days. Let us return to 2005. Then Majority Leader William H. (Bill) Frist, M.D. (R-TN) threatened a rules change which would have made confirmations subject to an up-or-down vote. Analysts such as Mike Hammond, former Counsel to the Senate Steering Committee (the caucus of conservative Senators) argued that if Senate Rule 22 were amended for confirmation votes it well could carry over into... Homeland Security's "Management and Programmatic" ChallengeOn Wednesday, Feb. 7, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) released a report titled, "Management and Programmatic Challenges Facing the Department of Homeland Security." As you might expect, I will focus on those issues that relate to the enforcement and administration of the immigration laws. It is important to remember that this report was after the GAO conducted an investigation into certain aspects of the Department of Homeland Security. The GAO is not a... Keith Olbermann's Trash TVGeneral Electric's slogan used to be that it "brings good things to life." But under GE chairman and CEO Jeffrey Immelt, that has changed. GE owns a low-rated cable network, MSNBC, which features a wise guy former sportscaster who has made a spectacle of himself by insulting people, acting like a clown, and imitating famous journalist Edward R. Murrow. On Thursday night's "Countdown" show, however, even host Keith Olbermann took a back seat to Anna Nicole... Lou Dobbs Goes Soft on DemsCNN's Lou Dobbs has done a good job of holding the Bush Administration's feet to the fire on illegal immigration and other critical issues. He has been one of the few commentators, for example, focusing attention on the scheme known as the Security and Prosperity Partnership, the precursor to a North American Union. But on January 23, 2007, Dobbs let his anti-Bush bias get the better of him. He allowed Democratic Rep. Charles Rangel to rant and rave about Bush's plan for a guest... What's In A Name? - "Trial Lawyers" Alone for Justice?Perhaps it is true, with apologies to the Immortal Bard, to whom the line is attributed: "What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet . . ." If so, the message at times may be ripe for antonymic application. Judging by the language of commercial advertising and "politics-speak" over many years, it is clear that a name or slogan as originally formulated sometimes attracts unwanted repute.... AIM Report: The Plan to Silence Conservatives - February ANote: AIM editor Cliff Kincaid covered a left-wing National Conference for Media Reform in Memphis, Tennessee, from January 12-14. His report on the event, "The Plan to Silence Conservatives," was posted on the AIM website and has ignited a national controversy, as a liberal Democrat scheme to use the power of the federal government to silence conservatives in the media has now been exposed. AIM is being called upon to lead national efforts to preserve freedom... |
