About the Church
The BibleThe Bible is God's Word to us. Human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit, wrote it. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because God inspired it, it is the written Word of God, the only infallible rule of faith and practice. The Bible is to be interpreted according to its original context and purpose and obeyed in reverence to the Lord who speaks through it in living power. God God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has revealed himself to be the living and true God, perfect in love and righteous in all His ways. He has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Each person is fully God. There is one God.
People are made in the spiritual image of God, as the crown of creation, to be like him in character and to have fellowship with him. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called "sin." This attitude separates people from God and causes many problems in life. Salvation Salvation is God's gift to us, but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sins by self-improvement or good works. God's gift to us is Christ Jesus. He is our only means of salvation. By trusting in Christ as God's offer of forgivenes, anyone can be saved from sin's penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled lives and turn to Christ in faith, we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Christ Jesus into his/her life by faith. The Church The universal Church is composed of all persons who through faith in Jesus Christ have been saved. Christ is the head of the Church. The purposes of the Church are to worship God, to demonstrate God's love to the world in need, to communicate the good news of God's gift of salvation, to unite believers, and to help believers grow spiritually mature. The Return of Christ God's efforts of salvation will culminate in the return of Christ. He will then raise the dead and judge all men. Those who did not trust Christ for their salvation will exist eternally separated from God by their sin in Hell. Those who turned to Christ in faith for forgiveness and salvation will exist eternally with God in Heaven (heaven and hell are real places of eternal existence). Then the whole earth will proclaim the glory of God who will make all things new! |
